Intergas boilers
Intergas began with a group of Dutch engineers. The company says it has made products for the home since 1939. By the late 1980s, it was making high-efficiency condensing boilers. It opened its UK head office and warehouse in the Midlands in 2008. In 2019, Intergas became part of Rheem, an American manufacturer.
What makes an Intergas boiler different
Intergas boilers are built around one key part. It’s called the bithermic heat exchanger, and Intergas developed it in 1996. It has two separate copper circuits inside one aluminium block. Intergas says this means fewer moving parts, and faster heat for your taps.
The Intergas range includes the Xtreme, Xclusive, Rapid, Rapid Plus and Eco RF. The Combi Compact HRE is the one Intergas calls its original compact combi. You’ll find the model name on the front of the boiler. The numbers after it, such as HRE 36/40, show its size. Many Intergas boilers can link to the Comfort Touch app, so you can check the boiler from your phone.
Fault codes
Intergas doesn’t list its fault codes on its website. They’re in the user manual for each model. You can download the manuals from the Intergas website, or ask Intergas to post one to you. If your boiler shows a code you can’t find, call Intergas or a Gas Safe engineer. Have the model name ready.
Boiler pressure
Intergas says most boilers should sit between 1 and 1.5 bar with the heating off. With the heating on, around 2 bar is normal. A small drop now and then is nothing to worry about. Bleeding a radiator lets out a little water, for example.
Intergas lists the common reasons for a boiler that keeps losing pressure:
- a leak at a radiator, pipe or valve;
- a faulty expansion vessel, which makes the pressure jump up and down;
- a faulty pressure relief valve, often with drips from the pipe outside.
You can top up the pressure yourself. See how to top up low boiler pressure. If you keep having to do it, Intergas says to stop resetting the boiler and book a repair.
Frozen condensate pipes
Intergas gives some advice on condensate pipes. It’s mainly for installers, but it’s useful to know. Its UK technical team says the pipe should be 32 mm across before it goes through the wall. Outside, it should be wider again, and insulated against the weather. The run should be short, with a good fall and few flat sections.
Intergas is honest that very cold spells can still freeze a pipe. If yours freezes, see how to thaw a frozen condensate pipe. If the pipe keeps freezing, ask a Gas Safe engineer to look at how it’s fitted.

Intergas manuals
Intergas puts its user guides and installation manuals on its own website. You can find Intergas manuals here. You'll need your model name. The GC number helps too. Our guide shows you how to find your boiler's model and GC number.
Stay safe. You can reset a boiler, top up its pressure and thaw a frozen condensate pipe yourself. Anything inside the case is a job for a Gas Safe registered engineer.
